Q: Is there an independent bookstore in your hometown of Flagstaff? How is your relationship with them? Do they carry Blue Mountain Rose?
A: Bright Side Bookshop is Flagstaff’s independent bookstore. They have a lovely mission statement: “To be a gathering space for community, connection and a civil exchange of ideas.” They host book clubs and author events, and invite authors into the store on Flagstaff First Fridays. I’m delighted that I get to present Blue Mountain Rose at a special event there on May 20 (it’s open to the public, free of charge).

Bright Side Bookshop is a hub of Flagstaff’s literary community because they do a wonderful job of engaging customers. A friendly and knowledgeable staff member welcomes you the moment you walk in, ready to help you find your next great read. They position books to catch the reader’s eye, add “staff pick” cards to some projects they feel are especially worthy of attention, and offer a diverse selection of quality materials.
It seems like every time I walk into the bookstore in historic downtown Flagstaff, it’s busy. Bookshelves are being browsed by people of all ages, including parents with kids, tourists, and couples on a date.

I’m proud to see Bright Side carrying Blue Mountain Rose. Right now, it’s on the New and Notable table, with a “Local Author” tag on it. They wouldn’t give it such a prominent position unless they believed it would interest local readers.
If you live in Flagstaff or plan to visit, I encourage a stop at Bright Side Bookshop. If you don’t live in Flagstaff, I hope you have a thriving independent bookstore in your hometown. Drop in this weekend to tell them how much you appreciate their shop as a place that values reading, connection, and community. And maybe pick up a book for your summer reading while you’re there!
P.S. Blue Mountain Rose publisher Soulstice Publishing has a storefront at Bookshop.org where you can find its books (including Blue Mountain Rose) and buy them from your local bookstore.

The day I walked into Bright Side Bookshop and saw Blue Mountain Rose on the New & Notable table was a huge day for me. I walked up to the nearest bookseller and thanked her for sharing my book with their clientele. I know I had a huge grin on my face. It was a magical moment for me. ~Julie
